One of my coolest iphone apps is Solar Monitor and when it pushed a moderate solar storm notification yesterday I jumped straight on Google Earth to find my best view South.
After a 3 hour hike up and over Mount Roy above Lake Wanaka and a bitterly cold shoot I came away with this night landscape hinting at the light play happening at the South Pole.
The bonus shot is this one of Wanaka casting its light & shadows into the bay.
This storm down-graded to minor by the time I got set up but it’s still great to see that colour on the horizon.
