Recently I was given the chance to shoot the creation of an incredible 5 course pop-up dinner.
I had been wanting to try setting up a small mobile studio for a while and it was a real challenge capturing each plated dish before being whisked out to dinner guests.
It was so much fun photographing the busy kitchen and showing the meticulous preparation and presentation involved.
The Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and Nikon D800 were chosen for getting into the thick of it in the kitchen and I sniped with my Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 out in the restaurant.
36mp gave me the ability to shoot fast and compose later. I used a golden pebble flecky board and a continuous modelling light with warming gel for lighting each dish.
I don’t really do much of this kind of work but I’m glad I got involved and my taste buds loved getting paid in the currency of incredible food.
My winter sports and adventure shoots are going to benefit from some of the tricks I learned and the technical aspects I had to overcome. I’m definitely going to start shooting more equipment and athlete detail shots this coming season.
Bring on the snow!!!!
